I read this article this morning, which brings to light some pretty shocking facts about the Occupy Wall Street Movement.
It has recently come to light that the FBI, was A. Treating the Occupy Wall Street Movement as a “terrorist threat” and B. Working with corporate entities to break up the movement. This article describes,
“A terrifying network of coordinated DHS, FBI, police, regional fusion center, and private-sector activity so completely merged into one another that the monstrous whole is, in fact, one entity: in some cases, bearing a single name, the Domestic Security Alliance Council.”
This force of merged state and corporate interests was used to gather and pool all sorts of information about individual protesters and the leaders within the movement. It took us all by surprise when the peaceful protests were met with extremely disproportionate violent police retaliation. It is quite disconcerting to know that police could carry out such violent actions with impunity, yet the most horrifying part of this whole situation has only come out in the last few days in the form of declassified FBI documents, which implicate the relationships between corporate America and the FBI.
The very banks which were responsible for the financial crisis that spurred the OWS movement, which focused on inequality and extremely unreasonable corporate welfare, were the ones prodding the FBI to move in, crack skulls and get the tear gas flowing on innocent American citizens.
We have reached a junction in our history which will either be looked back upon as the beginning of the end, or an extremely backwards time before we stopped letting corporate interests get in the way of our prosperity as a nation. It seems we live in an age where “free speech” has lost all meaning: the Infinite amount of money from corporations and Super PACs? That’s free speech. Innocent American citizens peacefully protesting? These terrorists need to be dealt with, according to the FBI (and their corporate advisors).
This is just another way that enormous bloated corporations make our government work against the interest the citizens. It was never an issue of public safety around the country that led police to crack down on the protests: behind the austere facade of riot gear and tear gas were the big banks and corporations, who considered it all a mere hiccup on their path to subjugate and disenfranchise everyone short of the top 1% of wealthiest Americans.
Police forces all over the country as well as the FBI became nothing more than cronies for the rich; knights, brutally shoving the lowly peasants back into their place below the lordes and kings of the land.
What’s the answer to this government out of touch and unconcerned with the needs of its most needy citizens? Citizen awareness. The only thing that makes these kinds of governmental and corporate practices possible at this point is the lack of accountability for these problems. We are finding out months later that the evil souls who caused the mess in the first place also were behind breaking up the movement which sought to justifiably oust them from their thrones of greed. Until we recognize all of the glaring facts and deal with what went on last year, we will never be able to prevent such selfish behavior in the future.
